In a recent interview with Metal Voice, KISS guitarist Ace Frehley threw some shade on his former bandmates Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley’s plan to utilize KISS avatars.

Frehley, known for his signature green and lightning bolt makeup, has never been shy about voicing his opinions about KISS, and this latest interview is no different.

Frehley’s comments stem from a question regarding his departure from KISS during the Creatures of the Night era. His response dives into a lack of trust with Simmons and Stanley, hinting at a long-standing friction between the band members.

Frehley seems particularly skeptical of their latest venture, suggesting their plans might be yet another failed attempt.

“I don’t think this is something long-time KISS fans are going to enjoy”

The Spaceman didn’t hold back when it came to voicing his disapproval of KISS’s latest venture. When asked about the band’s plan to use avatars, Frehley made it clear he would have never been on board.

“I don’t think this is something long-time KISS fans are going to enjoy,” Frehley stated. He acknowledged the avatars might appeal to a younger audience but expressed doubt about the overall success of the idea.

While offering well wishes, Frehley remains unconvinced and predicts the endeavor will ultimately fall flat.

Frehley on avatar profits and KISS shenanigans

KISS may be banking on their new avatars for future success, but Frehley isn’t buying it. In a previous interview, Frehley revealed he receives compensation for avatar-related merchandise. He views the whole project as a “merchandise ploy,” suggesting it’s more about profit than artistic merit.

Adding fuel to the fire, Frehley mentioned stumbling upon a YouTube clip where Gene Simmons supposedly expressed doubts about the avatars. This, according to Frehley, is par for the course with KISS – inconsistency and mixed messages seem to be the norm.

Frehley emphasizes his disinterest in their latest venture, stating he’s solely focused on his own music career.

Paul Stanley sets the record straight on KISS avatars

Addressing the confusion surrounding KISS’s avatar plans, guitarist Paul Stanley recently stepped forward to clarify things. He acknowledged that the initial reveal at the farewell concert might have caused some misconceptions.

“We wanted to offer a sneak peek of what’s to come,” Stanley explained. He emphasized that the avatars are still under development and their final form and purpose will differ greatly from what fans saw. Stanley assured fans that the avatars aren’t meant to replace the band itself, but rather represent a new way to experience KISS.

Patience seems to be key. Fans will have to wait until 2027 for the first digital KISS show featuring the avatars, as announced by the band in a social media video late last year.
